Hernandez Praises Defensive Strength

- The Foxes recorded a 1-0 win on their home UEFA Champions League debut 

- Islam Slimani headed in the only goal of the game in the first half 

Defensive solidarity played a huge part in Leicester City’s UEFA Champions League victory over FC Porto, according to Luis Hernández. 

Islam Slimani’s first-half header – his third goal in four games for the Club – gave the Foxes a deserved lead at Leicester City Stadium on Tuesday evening. 

Porto responded well in the second period, but City repelled all their forward line threw at them to record a 1-0 win. 

“I think today we played a really good game,” Hernández told LCFC TV after the clash. “In the first half I think we played really well. We had many chances to score and Porto didn’t have many. 

“In the second half, it was obvious that Porto wanted to win and we needed to defend, but today I think we defended very well. 

“I think this is our way – our strength. Now, we have to recover because in four days we have another game. The Premier League is just as important.” 

The Blue Army were in full voice to create an electric atmosphere during the Club’s first-ever home UEFA Champions League game and Hernández says he was proud to be part of such a historic occasion. 

He added: “It’s fantastic because we’ve started really well in this competition. I think for us and all our supporters that’s really important. 

“We’ve started well and we hope that the next game in this competition we will win again. I hope we can stay in the next round. 

“It (the atmosphere) was unbelievable. I was our first game at home in the Champions League. It was a really good day for the Club.”
