Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kanté played 45 minutes to help France advance to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

The combative central midfielder started the fixture at the Stade des Lumieres in Lyon, where Norwich City’s Robbie Brady converted a penalty after just two minutes to give former Foxes boss Martin O’Neill’s men the lead.

Les Bleus rallied after the break and it was the clinical Antoine Griezmann who sealed the victory for Didier Deschamps' men. The Atletico Madrid midfielder struck twice in four second-half minutes to book France a spot in the next round.

Kanté, substituted at half-time, picked up a booking in the first period and will therefore miss France’s quarter-final clash against either England or Iceland.

Make sure you check back into LCFC.com this evening to find out how Jamie Vardy’s England side got on in their last-16 tie against Iceland at the Allianz Riviera in Nice.
