Midfielder could not fault his Leicester City side after they dispatched Derby County to advance to the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round.

The Wales international captained the Foxes to , nodding in the opening goal of the game a minute into the second half.

While Derby took the tie to extra-time following Abdoul Camara’s deflected strike, City ran out deserved winners thanks to fine goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Demarai Gray.

Reflecting to at the final whistle, King stressed the importance of building on a victory that he felt could have come in normal time given the Foxes’ dominance throughout.

“It was important tonight because we obviously wanted to progress and go as far as we can in the cup,” said the City No.10. “Also, we’re hoping it can be a springboard to kick-start our league form ahead of the big game on Sunday [against Swansea].

“It’s always hard when you make a number of changes and some of the boys out there haven’t played so much this season. Great credit to them because they were really good and it shows the strength and depth we’ve got in the squad.

“Maybe in the first half we were playing our way into the game and making sure we kept it tight to hit them on the break, but once we got the first half out the way, we knew we were playing well so we really tried to take it to them.

“I think we did that in the second half by getting the early goal. They got a bit of fortune and got back into it but for the rest of half we dominated and I thought we were unlucky not to get the win before extra-time.

“We showed great strength and character and we’re obviously delighted to come away with the win.”

King is well aware of the fact that an important Premier League fixture at Swansea City is fast approaching, but says the Foxes would certainly welcome a run in the Emirates FA Cup.

He added: “As the game went on it looked like there was only going to be one winner. How you get over the line doesn’t really matter.

“We’re in the hat for the next round and we’ve got a tough game away at Millwall. We know what that’ll be like, but we’re delighted. We can use that now to build our confidence.”
