Young Leicester City defender Josh Knight was pleased to get on the scoresheet as the Development Squad picked up a fine on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes went into the clash without a win in 2017 but took the game to the Gunners with the combined efforts of a solid defence and potent attacking force driving them to a crucial three points at Holmes Park.

Knight hopes this success can provide a springboard for City over the coming weeks to help them climb away from the bottom of the table with a steady flow of fixtures coming up between now and the end of the season.

After man-marking England international Danny Welbeck for much of the game, Knight told LCFC TV at full-time: “The lads are buzzing. We’ve not been getting the rub of the green in the last few games but today we did well.

“They're a strong team and had a strong line-up out but the boys played well and pulled their own weight and we got the win. The boys can push on from this win and kick on in the next game and get another win.

"It was my first goal of the season. We know we're a threat from set-pieces and it was good to get on the scoresheet.”

Knight also praised his City team-mate Layton Ndukwu, who scored the hosts’ second of the afternoon, for showing the guile and skill to spot a gap in the Arsenal defence before finding the top corner in the 52nd minute.

“I knew when he cut inside he was either going to whip it or dip it and we all know Layton’s technical ability,” Knight added. “It’s a great goal for us. We can use this game to push on and hopefully get a win on Friday.”
