Leicester City will attend the prestigious HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens in Hong Kong this summer, giving the Club’s young stars the chance to showcase their abilities on the international stage.

A contingent of 10 from City’s Under-21s, managed by Steve Beaglehole, will join Marseille, Bayer Leverkusen, Cagliari and a host of other illustrious sides from across the globe for the intense two-day, seven-a-side competition in Asia between 26-28 May, 2017.

Leicester, the 2013 Cup winners, have been regular guests to the Soccer Sevens in recent seasons as it provides the Academy’s graduates and scholars with a unique opportunity to test their skills against players from various territories, preparing them for a future career in the game.

The Foxes, who will also compete alongside British counterparts Aston Villa, West Ham United and Rangers, have reached a final on each of their five appearances in Asia, defeating Hong Kong champions Eastern 3-2 in last year’s Shield final.

Academy Manager Ian Cawley said: "The HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens has been a rich learning experience for young Leicester City players for many years now. The demands of the competition, its format and its intensity are unique and challenge the players' ability to adapt to a different environment.

"The Club has been involved in all three of the tournament's knockout competitions in recent seasons and we're delighted to be returning to the Happy Valley to build on the successes of previous years.”

Tournament Director Chris Plowman added: “Although we have broadened the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens to more European leagues this year, we of course are delighted to see some great English clubs represented again, with last year’s champions Aston Villa, West Ham United – the finalists for the past two years – and current English champions Leicester City facing off against the new European opposition.”
