Leicester City will face Porto, Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen in their first-ever UEFA Champions League campaign after the draw was made in Monaco on Thursday evening.

The Foxes entered the draw as top seeds having won the 2015/16 Premier League title and will now battle it out with Europe’s elite in the race to reach the final, which takes place at Cardiff’s National Stadium on 3 June next year.

It won’t be easy for Claudio Ranieri’s men however as they gear up for a series of battles with opponents of outstanding pedigree in European competition.

History will be created at Leicester City Stadium when it hosts European football for the first time in front of sold out crowds, while Foxes fans face exciting trips to Portugal, Belgium and Denmark as the European tour begins – round trips totally 3,338 miles.

Pot 2 opponents Porto have an impressive record in European competition having won five trophies, most recently lifting the Europa League in 2011. They won the Champions League itself in 2004 when they overcame AS Monaco in the final – their second title in the competition having won the European Cup in 1987. The 2016/17 competition is the 21st time they have contested the Group Stages – a record they share with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Belgian champions and 1978 European Cup finalists Club Brugge also present some stern opposition for the Foxes, with more than 40 campaigns and 200 victories to their name in European competition.

Eleven-time Danish champions FC Copenhagen secured a famous victory over Manchester United during their first Champions League campaign back in 2006 and remain the only team from Denmark to advance from the Group Stages, when they were knocked out by Chelsea in 2011.
