Leicester City will join clubs around the UK this weekend in supporting the work of Stonewall to promote inclusion and equality in sport.

Stonewall's Rainbow Laces campaign will see thousands of people, from fans to players, put on Rainbow Laces on 26 and 27 November to show that sport is everyone's game and to ensure lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) people feel welcome and included.

The campaign will have strong visibility at Saturday’s Premier League visit of Middlesbrough, while City skipper Wes Morgan will join captains around the country in wearing Stonewall’s customised captain’s armband to highlight Leicester City’s support.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said: “Sport should be for everybody and Leicester City is proud to support all campaigns that promote equality and inclusion both in football and in society.

Football brings people together and can be a very powerful force for good – something that should be shared with everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from.”

While most fans welcome and accept LGBT people in sport, Stonewall’s recent research shows that half of all fans have heard offensive remarks about lesbian, gay, bi and trans people in the last five years.

Since its formation in 2015, Leicester City have been working with supporter group Foxes Pride to ensure Leicester City’s LGBT fanbase have a safe and welcoming experience when they support their team.

An inclusive group, open to all fans that can support their aims, Foxes Pride also promote the club within LGBT communities, work with other supporters’ groups and other LGBT groups and work with Leicester City in identifying and tackling anti-LGBT language and attitudes in football.

“We are really pleased that the Premier League and Leicester City are taking a pro-active approach towards the Rainbow Laces campaign,” said Foxes Pride Chair Graeme Smith.

“We’re enthusiastic supporters of Stonewall and are looking forward to the elimination of anti-LGBT language and actions both on and off the pitch.”

Leicester City Football Club does not tolerate offensive, abusive or discriminatory behaviour of any kind and is committed to creating a passionate, inclusive, welcoming environment in which everyone is free to enjoy the matchday experience.

Should you experience issues with supporter behaviour at a Leicester City match, you should contact your nearest steward.
