Leicester City Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha says a record-breaking summer transfer window highlights the extent of the Club’s long-term ambitions.
The Deadline Day signing of Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Sporting CP saw the Foxes break their transfer record for the third time since lifting the Premier League title in May. Slimani joins Ahmed Musa, Nampalys Mendy, Luis Hernandez, Ron-Robert Zieler and Bartosz Kapustka among City’s new recruits ahead of our maiden UEFA Champions League campaign this season.
But investments in contracts for established members of Claudio Ranieri’s squad have been equally well-received, with a host of stars including Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Wes Morgan and Ranieri himself all committing their futures to the Club.
“We have made a big reinvestment in the squad because we believe in the Club’s potential for further success,” Aiyawatt told lcfc.com.
“Winning the Premier League was an amazing achievement, but it was never our intention to be satisfied with that. We want to keep moving the Club forward, to keep striving for more. Our vision for the Club has always been one of long-term success.
“That is why we have made long-term investments, not only in new signings, but also in our existing squad – keeping the special spirit that exists at Leicester City while strengthening with fresh quality.
“I’m really pleased with the business we have done. I think it shows how ambitious we are and that we’re ready to fight for more success.”
City’s summer investment has been of a level never before seen on Filbert Way, as the Foxes seek to compete among clubs whose aggregate spend this summer exceeded £1billion.
And Aiyawatt was quick to praise the work of the Club’s staff in identifying players who will not only add quality, but will bring the right attitude to Leicester City.
He added: “Finding players that will buy into our philosophy has always been a big part of our recruitment strategy. It means something special to play for this Club, to be part of this team and to represent our supporters.
“All of the players we have signed, and those we have retained, have an appreciation for that and will carry that philosophy forward as long as they are Leicester City players.
“The evolution of our squad has been an on-going process during the last five years and it continues to be driven by the diligence, hard work and commitment of Club staff, who should all be very proud of the progress we continue to make.”
