Harvey Barnes scored his fourth goal of the season for MK Dons as Robbie Neilson’s men ran out 3-2 victors over Gillingham in Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Leicester City Academy product, 19, has taken the Buckinghamshire club by storm since agreeing to spend the back in January and he impressed again at Stadium:MK on Saturday, delivering a typically industrious and attacking display from midfield.

His fourth goal of the season helped the Dons to a 3-2 success on an afternoon that was as controversial as it was dramatic. Both sides had a man sent off as Dean Lewington scored a 91st minute winner – less than 60 seconds after Josh Wright appeared to have salvaged a point.

This result leaves Milton Keynes in 14th place in the League 1 standings with eight matches still to play – eight points clear of the relegation zone and another 15 adrift of sixth-placed Southend United in the final play-off berth.

City midfielder Matty James, meanwhile, was again vital for Barnsley during a tempestuous Yorkshire derby at Oakwell. Angus MacDonald headed home in stoppage time to secure a share of the spoils for the hosts after Sam Winnall’s opener for Sheffield Wednesday in the 50th minute.

With just one win in eight matches, Barnsley stand 12 points away from both the top six and bottom three in the Sky Bet Championship. Callum Elder, also on loan with Paul Heckingbottom’s men, did not feature while Tom Lawrence was absent for Ipswich Town at home to Birmingham City through injury.
