Loan Round-Up: Lawrence And Barnes Shine

Leicester City duo Tom Lawrence and Harvey Barnes both scored crucial goals for Ipswich Town and MK Dons this weekend as Matty James made his debut for Barnsley.

Leicester City duo Tom Lawrence and Harvey Barnes both scored crucial goals for Ipswich Town and MK Dons this weekend as Matty James made his debut for Barnsley.

Lawrence, with the Tractor Boys until the end of the season, grabbed his eighth goal of the campaign so far with a fine curled effort after ghosting in from the left flank against Sky Bet Championship rivals Preston North End. 

The Wales international, 23, has been in with a host of memorable strikes to his name already. His latest goal, however, was not enough to secure victory at Deepdale.

Jordan Hugill’s 89th minute equaliser for the hosts means Ipswich sit in 14th place in the Championship table, 10 points adrift of both the play-off positions and the bottom three. 

Midfielder Barnes, meanwhile, was handed his full MK Dons debut for the trip to Peterborough United after in a 5-3 success at stadium:mk last time around. 

The 19-year-old, who represented City at FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League group stage last month, continued his strong start to life in League 1 with his second goal in as many weeks to set up a 4-0 triumph. 

Robbie Neilson’s men have now won two on the spin with Barnes among their ranks and could climb to 13th in the third tier with three points against promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers next weekend.

Elsewhere, Barnsley handed James with his debut in their 1-0 success against Rotherham United after on Wednesday 25 January.
