Loan Round-Up: Lawrence, James and Barnes Excel Again

Tom Lawrence came up against fellow Leicester City loanee Matty James on Saturday afternoon and scored a last minute equaliser for Ipswich Town against Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship.

The City pair are at their respective loan clubs until the end of the season with both having impressed so far this campaign but it was Lawrence who made headlines with a crucial late leveller at Oakwell to take his tally for Mick McCarthy’s men to 11 goals.

James, who is joined at the Yorkshire club by young Australian left-back Callum Elder, has been in stellar form for the Tykes in recent weeks and delivered another Man of the Match display this weekend as he continues his return from a recurrent knee problem.

But it was Lawrence, a Welsh international with four caps to his name, who will have enjoyed his afternoon the most after applying a tidy finish to Brett Pitman's cross for the Tractor Boys to put them 16th in the second tier league standings, seven points above the bottom three.

Elsewhere, 19-year-old midfielder Harvey Barnes continued his excellent progress at MK Dons with another notable performance for his adopted side to help them secure a late 2-2 draw with Rochdale at Stadium:MK on Saturday under the management of former Fox Robbie Neilson.

Having made his City debut against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League group stage back in December, Barnes has been an invaluable figure for the Dons in the Sky Bet League 1 and was on hand to provide an assist for Kieran Agard to finish in the 70th minute.
