Mahrez & Vardy Shortlisted For 2016 Ballon D'or
- The Leicester City duo were pivotal in the Club's Premier League title victory
- Lionel Messi won the award in 2015, when it was known as the FIFA Ballon D'or
Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy have both been named alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the 30-man shortlist for the 2016 Ballon D’or.
The prestigious award, which crowns the best player in the world and is voted for by journalists, has been dominated by Barcelona’s Messi and Real Madrid’s Ronaldo in recent years.
Known as the FIFA Ballon D’or between 2009 and 2015, Messi was the most recent winner when he took his fifth crown last year, and the inclusion of Mahrez and Vardy this time around is a clear indicator of just how outstanding they have been for Leicester City.
The 17 league goals scored by Mahrez and the 24 that Vardy netted last season helped Leicester secure a historic first league title.
Mahrez has continued to build on that success this season, with his form translating seamlessly into the UEFA Champions League, while Vardy has netted against Swansea City and Liverpool this term.
