Marc Albrighton Signs Up Until 2020

- The 26-year-old is the latest of a number of senior Leicester City stars to commit their future to the Club 

- Albrighton joined on a free transfer in 2014 and played a key role in last season’s Premier League title win 

- He has made 66 appearances for the Foxes and scored four goals 

Leicester City winger Marc Albrighton has become the latest player to commit his future to the Football Club by signing a new deal until 2020. 

The consistently high standards set by the 26-year-old on City’s left hand side last season were instrumental in helping Claudio Ranieri’s team march towards the Premier League title. 

His tireless running and accurate crossing made him a key part of the team, as he contributed a number of assists and goals during the campaign along with a significant defensive contribution. 

Albrighton joins Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Andy King, Danny Drinkwater, Kasper Schmeichel, Ben Chilwell and manager Claudio Ranieri in signing new deals this summer, as the Club look ahead of both a title defence and a first campaign in the Champions League. 

Speaking to LCFC TV, Albrighton said:“The Club has been great to me since I signed, I’ve had some amazing times here and we’ve reached the ultimate by winning the league last year. 

"I just think there’s a really good feeling around the place. Everyone seems to want to stay at the Club and I think that’s a massive credit to how far the Club has come in the last few years. It’s exciting times for Leicester City Football Club and I want to be a part of that.” 

Albrighton joined the Foxes on a free transfer in the summer of 2014 after his contract with boyhood club Aston Villa had expired. He made more than 100 appearances for the Villans as well as a loan spell with Wigan. 

It took a little time for Albrighton to establish himself with the Foxes, as the team struggled at the bottom of the table during the 2014/15 season, but the winger’s return to the fold at half time of a 2-1 win over West Ham in April 2015 helped herald a remarkable turnaround in fortunes. 

In a new role as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation, Albrighton’s quality and fitness were integral to a run of form that saw the Foxes win seven and draw one of their final nine league fixtures to ensure survival. 

He scored his first goal for City against Chelsea that season before adding another in a 5-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on the final day. 

Albrighton then returned to midfield and began the 2015/16 campaign in a similar vein of form as he found the net in a 4-2 opening day win over Sunderland, before going on to play his part in the famous title victory. 

The winger was again at his brilliant best as City beat Swansea City 2-1 at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with a typically committed and high quality performance that earned a standing ovation as he left the field in the final 15 minutes.
