After the midfielder joined the Club on Sunday, latest signing Nampalys Mendy described joining Premier League champions Leicester City as a dream come true.

Having been an ever-present to help Nice to a fourth-placed finish in Ligue 1 last term, the powerful midfielder made the switch to King Power Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

The prospect of potentially playing in both the Premier League and the Champions League for the first time is huge for Mendy.

And after meeting a number of his new team-mates during his first training session on Monday, he can’t wait to get working under Claudio Ranieri for the second time in his career, having already done so at Monaco.

“I feel good,” Mendy told Foxes Player HD. “It’s my first day and I feel very happy. Claudio [Ranieri] is a very good coach – I like his strong mentality and how the team plays together.

“I’m excited to play in the Premier League because it’s my first season in it. I came from France and today I’m at a Premier League club – it’s my dream.

“The Champions League also – I’ve never played in the Champions League so it’ll be my first time and I’m very excited and I believe in the team.

“The Premier League is physically stronger and it’s faster and in Ligue 1, it’s more about tactics and technique, so it’s very different. I like to always fight and I play for the team. I play with my head also.”

While eager to take to the King Power Stadium turf for the Foxes, Mendy is thinking only about the exciting pre-season schedule that the Foxes have ahead of them.

First taking on Oxford United, City then face Celtic in Glasgow, Paris-Saint Germain in Los Angeles and Barcelona in Stockholm in the International Champions Cup.

He added: “I’m very excited for pre season because there are some big games against big teams and I want to see how I play with my new team-mates.

“The facilities are good and the stadium is very good. I like the stadium – it’s big and it’s different to stadiums in France – the supporters are close to the pitch.”
