Wes Morgan wants Leicester City to earn their first Premier League away win of the season on Saturday, when his side face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Now fully focused on climbing the table, the Foxes are aiming to secure their first league triumph of 2016/17 on the road against the Black Cats.

David Moyes’ outfit have hit a good spell of form in recent weeks, winning two of their last three league games, but Morgan says his side are concentrated only on how they perform in Sunderland.

“It’s not going to be easy at all,” Morgan told LCFC TV “Sunderland are finding a bit of form and they can be strong team. They’ve got some good, experience players, so they’ll be a big threat and we have to be ready for that.

“At the same time, we need to pick up our first away win. We want to go up there and perform to the best of our abilities and pick up a result.

“We’ve worked on tactics all week and we’ve analysed our strengths and weaknesses, so we’ll try and implement that in the game. There’s a few tactics that we want to use and hopefully we can apply those to get the right result.”

One man Morgan and his men could come up against is striker Jermain Defoe, who has bagged seven goals in 13 Premier League appearances this term.

The City skipper continued: “Jermain Defoe is a born goalscorer and he will always find the net for whatever team he plays for.

“He’s a big threat for them and we definitely need to keep him quiet. We’ll be focused on that and of course there’s other key players that we need to keep an eye on.”

City head into the game having secured a late point against Middlesbrough at King Power Stadium last weekend.

For Morgan, that could provide the Foxes with the boost they need given they equalised with what proved to be the last kick of the game in the 2-2 draw.

Morgan added: “It was a good point considering the circumstances. We left it very late but the boys just kept going to the end. To get a penalty and for it to be converted to get a point was a massive result mentally. Hopefully we can use that in the next game.

“Everybody is trying to do their bit for the team and it was desperate times so I pushed forward. I managed to draw a foul and win a penalty which was fantastic. If I can do that for the team then that’s a bonus – I was just there at the right time to help the team.

“On the balance of the game we didn’t play too well. We conceded a goal when we felt we were finding some momentum, which was a blow. Time was ticking away and it was getting later and we were losing, so to score at such a late stage of the game was a big relief.

“Mentally, it does wonders for the team because we didn’t go under or give up – we got a vital point in the end.”
