Peake Looking Forward To Home UEFA Youth League Debut

Leicester City’s Under-19s will contest their first home UEFA Youth League fixture on Tuesday, as they host FC Porto at Loughborough University (2pm kick-off).
The young Foxes take on a Porto side that opened their UEFA Youth League campaign with a dominant 4-1 victory over FC Copenhagen, while City were edged 2-1 by Club Brugge on Tuesday 13 September at the Schiervelde Stadium out in Bruges.

That opening fixture proved to be a valuable experience for Leicester, who were unfortunate not to earn a point out of the game after Admiral Muskwe had pulled one back for his side.

Competing in different countries and facing talented opposition is something that the Club’s youngsters will benefit greatly from – not least against FC Porto.

Trevor Peake said ahead of the game: “It was a great experience for the lads out in Bruges, playing in a different country, but also the flight out and the overnight stay was different to their weekly schedule in England.

“We lost our first game, so it’s a really important one for us against Porto. Some of the lads have played at some decent stadiums now having played for the Under-23s, so it’ll be a good experience at Loughborough too.

“The fact that we’re playing a foreign team like Porto means they’ll probably move the ball in different ways and will have different tactics.”

There were plenty of positives to take from the clash with Club Brugge, and Peake is hoping the Under-19s can build on them against Porto.

“As with most games, there was a handful of positives that we took from the game that we’ll be hoping to improve on against Porto,” Peake continued.

“There were some very good performances, with Khanya Leshabela and Sim Thandi – two of the youngest that played in the game – certainly impressing.

“Whether the set up for the Porto game will be the same we don’t know, but we know Porto beat Copenhagen and we’ll be looking at the analysis on that ahead of the game.

“A big factor with the game in Bruges was the two early goals. If we hadn’t conceded them we wouldn’t have been chasing the game.

“Porto’s record at youth level is world renowned, especially with their productivity and that’s to be really admired.

“We’re hopeful and confident ahead of the game. Porto will be a really good test for us and it’s a pity that we couldn’t get at least a point out of that Brugge.

“In an ideal world, we’d like to win all of our home games, and that starts off with Porto on Tuesday.”
