Peake: Young Foxes Can Be Proud Of Themselves
- The result means it is Chelsea, and not City, who will progress to the last four despite a determined display from the hosts
- Peake says the players did the Club proud and has backed them to improve their form in the U18 Premier League South
Trevor Peake says he cannot fault his players after the Leicester City Under-18s suffered a slender at King Power Stadium on Wednesday night.
The young Foxes battled hard against illustrious opposition and went close to opening the scoring in the second half when Kairo Arlott-Edwards struck the post but Ike Ugbo’s 65th header was enough for the visitors to book their place in the last four.
Reflecting on the result with LCFC TV at full-time, Peake said: “We did have a bit of a plan and the lads stuck to that. It meant that Chelsea had a lot of possession but they didn’t trouble our goalkeeper because our defending was top-class.
“It’s disappointing for the lads to go out of the competition at this stage just by that one goal. We were definitely underdogs, they’ve done very well in this competition in recent seasons and do well week in week out in the U18 Premier League South program too.
“To get together as a group and come up with the ideas to nullify them was carried out in the best way we possibly could. We couldn’t have done any more. It’s been terrific, we have a few players who usually play for the Under-23s and they do make a difference.
“I was really pleased with the effort all over the pitch. Hopefully they’ll look back and maybe be disappointed in five years’ time that they didn’t make it to the semis. They can be proud of how they represented the Club tonight and I don’t think they could have done any more.”
