Petty Delighted To See Hard Work Pay Off

Ben Petty was delighted to see the effort put in by the Leicester City Development Squad pay off during the fantastic 2-1 victory over Arsenal in Premier League 2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes remain in touch with those above them in the league standings on the and Petty says it is a victory which has been coming over the past few weeks with a host of strong performances not reaping the results they perhaps deserved.

Josh Knight and Layton Ndukwu efforts were enough to render Ben Sheaf’s late effort for the Gunners a mere consolation ahead of the Premier League Cup trip to face local rivals Nottingham Forest on Friday evening.

Assistant coach : “It think it was coming. We’ve been playing well and, as we’ve said a lot of the times after games, we’ve been delighted with the lads. They’ve been working really hard.

“On another day, with a bit more confidence, we could have won by three or four. Today, to concede at the end, it shows a slight lack of confidence but they deserved that. Hopefully we’ll kick on until the end of the season.”

Arsenal called upon the services of Danny Welbeck for the clash in Whetstone as the England international striker continues his recovery from injury but Petty felt both his centre-backs, Knight and captain Elliott Moore, had him under control.

“You look at the teamsheet before and you see that little bit of quality there and you do feel a little bit concerned,” he added. “But I felt Elliott and Josh manfully dealt with him and kept him really quiet. They’ll take a lot of confidence from that.

“We’ve been stressing that to the players, about having believe in what they do. They shape was great today, they worked really hard defensively and you can see we can create chances with our strikers."

Petty was also thrilled with Ndukwu's performance and praised the young forward for scoring a brilliant strike in the second half to cement City's position of dominance in the clash and seal all three points.

He continued: “It’s been about him making better decisions, getting his crosses and shots off and not taking too many touches. Today he was outstanding but a little tired in the last 15 minutes so we took him off and got some fresh legs on.”
