Preparations for the city of Leicester’s UEFA Champions League debut continued on Monday evening, as visitors FC Porto sampled the surroundings of Leicester City Stadium.
A little over 24 hours before facing the Foxes on Matchday 2, Dragões arrived for their pre-match training session under the lights on Filbert Way, in front of the world’s media.
Despite being twice champions of Europe and 27 times champions of Portugal, Porto will be aiming to break a long-standing duck against City on Tuesday night. The 2004 winners have never won a match on English soil in 16 previous attempts.
Their plan to end that streak was a popular topic of conversation in UEFA’s pre-match press conference, which saw head coach Nuno Espírito Santo and Brazilian defender Alex Telles field questions from the stadium’s packed media suite.
Answering questions both in Portuguese and English, Nuno expressed his admiration for City’s achievements last season, but insisted Porto’s record on these shores should hold no fear for his players.

“History tells us that FC Porto have never managed to win in England, but these moments are like records in front of us – they are there to be broken,” he declared.
“Leicester are the champions of the Premier League, it’s one of the most competitive leagues in the world so what Leicester did last season was remarkable and we must respect it.
“We know very well the difficulties we will face tomorrow. But we’ll do our best to get what we want, which is a win.”
Following the conclusion of the evening’s media engagement, Nuno led his squad out onto the pitch to fine tune their preparations for Tuesday night’s game.

Among the notable participants was experienced campaigner Maxi Pereira, whose return to fitness will be a major boost for the visitors.
The Uruguayan defender has been side-lined since the playoff victory over Roma last month, but now takes his place in a reportedly fully fit squad.
