Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri says he has plenty of confidence in his squad following their 4-2 International Champions Cup defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday evening.

The Spanish champions stormed into a 3-0 lead before the break following a Munir Mohammed brace and Luis Suarez’s smart finish.

But the Foxes were excellent in the second period and reduced the deficit to just one goal thanks to Ahmed Musa’s brilliant double.

Speaking to LCFC TV after the game, Ranieri said: “I'm very pleased with our performance. In the first half, we showed good discipline and tried to play our football, but at this moment of pre season, it’s not possible. I am very confident.

“It was good. We tried to do something good. Of course when you make little mistakes against so many champions, they can invent anything.

“I’m very happy with the discipline and momentum of pre season. Of course, we didn’t win, but we are in the right way.

“It was a very hard training session today because when Barcelona keep possession of the ball, you have to move very quickly to press and go on the counter attack. For this reason, I’m very pleased.”

After concluding their International Champions Cup campaign against Barcelona, the Foxes next take on Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in the FA Community Shield on Sunday.

The City boss added: “I hope the players learned something. I spoke with them and said that the little details against big champions is very important because if we don’t make mistakes, they can’t invent a goal.

“Now, we have to reflect very well and I will choose my best XI [against Manchester United on Sunday].”
