Claudio Ranieri hailed the importance of his side’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon amid a trio of fantastic goals handed them all three points.

Ahmed Musa opened the scoring with his first for the Club just before half time – a thunderous strike from 20 yards – before Shinji Okazaki doubled that lead on 63 minutes with an instinctive finish inside the near post.
Christian Fuchs then rattled home his first for the Club with a sensational 25-yard half volley that arrowed into the far corner to make it 3-0. Yohan Cabaye turned home a Wilfried Zaha cross for Palace late on, but City saw out the victory, which moves them up to 12th in the league table.
Afterwards, Ranieri was delighted with his team and his goalscorers amid an energetic and high quality display from his side, to move them within five points of the top four after just nine games of the season.
City are now 20 games unbeaten at home in the league, and Ranieri said: “Look, we started not so good. Crystal Palace started better than us and in the first 20 minutes they kept possession of the ball very well and it was difficult to stop them. After this we started to press and play as we used to. It was a very good match.
“Of course, Musa needed the goal. He’s a good player and for me it was important that he understands the Premier League because it’s different football. Now in the training sessions he’s getting better and has improved a lot and for this reason I played him today.
“It was important because it gave us a lot of confidence. In the dressing room we spoke about what we are doing because they are a very good team with good players and played well. They cross a lot of balls and I said ‘look, in the end it will be a battle’.”
On the goals for Okazaki and Fuchs, Ranieri added: “Shinji used to score these kind of goals in the Bundesliga. He’s a hard worker and he helps us in attack and midfield. He’s a very important player for us.
“[Christian Fuchs’ goal was] Fantastic. He followed the action, saw the ball come out and shot very well. He’s signed a new contract and he can have a very great season for us.”
