Claudio Ranieri says Leicester City will put the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea behind them by turning their attentions to Sunday’s Premier League trip to Southampton.

While there were few goalscoring opportunities throughout, Antonio Conte’s men were ruthless going forward and twice found the back of the net from an unlikely source in left back Marcos Alonso.

Pedro with a header in the second period, but Ranieri was content with his side’s performance and believes it is now important to focus on their showdown with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.

“I think we made a good performance, but of course I am thinking that without the goals,” said Ranieri. “With the goals, I think we should follow the opponent a little more because we have to mark them better.

“We attacked them by pressing high. We put them under pressure but of course they have good quality. If they score a good goal, it’s okay.

“When you concede a goal early in the first half and early in the second half, I’m very sad. Of course after that for Chelsea it was easy to keep possession of the ball. I think the third goal was then too much for us.

“When you don’t have luck it’s difficult to make something against big teams, but we are in good condition now, so we can make a very good performance next. Now, our mind is about Southampton.”

Ranieri was impressed with Premier League debutant Wilfred Ndidi, who proved how adaptive he can be after playing in both a defensive and midfield role.

The City boss said of the Nigeria international: “He’s an athlete, he played well and his debut here was good at King Power Stadium. I’m very pleased with his performance, but I’m pleased with all of the players today.

“At the beginning, he was chosen as a central midfielder and after we changed his position. For this reason, I changed and put him in the middle [of the defence] after.”
