Leicester City’s Development Squad concluded preparations for the 2016/17 campaign by beating Notts County 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at Belvoir Drive on Thursday.

The victory came just two days after Steve Beaglehole’s outfit had defeated The New Saints 2-1 at Belvoir Drive, as they ended pre season with six wins from eight fixtures.

England youth international Layton Ndukwu netted a superb opening goal to break the deadlock against Notts County, before Faiq Bolkiah capped a fine performance with a neat finish of his own.

Speaking to LCFC.com after the win, Beaglehole said: “It was a great performance. Notts County came with a strong side and fielded some experienced players. I was delighted because It’s the best we’ve played this pre season.

“We scored two very good goals. Layton [Ndukwu] scored a brilliant goal, and Faiq [Bolkiah] followed up with a second.

“Keeping a clean sheet was good and we emphasised that after of the game. We’ve got some physical opponents coming up, especially in the Checkatrade Trophy.

“We defended corners well and didn’t concede, while also creating a lot more – we looked like we could score goals, which was of course pleasing.”

The Foxes begin their Premier League 2 campaign with a testing clash with Manchester United on Monday evening at Leigh Sports Village – an encounter Beaglehole is very much looking forward to.

He added: “I have great respect for Warren Joyce and Alan Fettis at Manchester United. They won the championship last year and so many of their players have made the step up to the first team.

“Manchester United win games at all levels as it’s expected of them. It’s part of the Manchester United way and I really like that mentality.

“We’ll have to match their work ethic and that’s exactly what we’ll be trying to do. We’ve got a fit group and we’re all looking forward to getting our season underway.”
