It was a winning start to pre-season for members of the Club’s Development Squad on Wednesday as they helped a Leicester City XI beat Ilkeston 3-1 in an entertaining encounter.

Kairo Mitchell had given the Foxes a 1-0 lead inside 90 seconds when he headed home from close range after Melkamu Taufer’s shot struck the woodwork following a well-worked corner.

It was Danny Rowe who then doubled that advantage shortly before the break with a glancing header that came after some excellent wing play from Connor Wood on the left side.

Mitchell added his second and Leicester’s third just seven minutes into the second half to seemingly put the result beyond doubt – an instinctive finish from the youngster after the ball came free in the area.

Ilkeston’s Liam Hearn did grab a goal to make it 3-1 around the hour as he finished a corner well, but the Foxes were in control and saw out the match comfortably.

CITY: Bramley, Johnson, Wood, Miles, Moore, Taufer, Rowe, Mitchell, Bolkiah, Debayo, Knight
