Leicester City’s Development Squad recovered from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday in a pre-season friendly at Belvoir Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Steve Beaglehole’s outfit were looking to build on their 100 per cent pre-season record, having already beaten Ilkeston, Fakenham Town and Nuneaton Town.

Their last outing against Nuneaton – a 2-0 victory at Liberty Way – featured four first teamers, and that was again the case against Sheffield, as Tom Lawrence, Ritchie De Laet, Liam Moore and Gökhan Inler all played 45 minutes at the Club’s training ground.

The Foxes started well, with midfielder Harvey Barnes going close on two occasions, before Liam Moore sliced wide from the edge of the box.

A 20-yard drive from Lawrence was then blocked just before the half-hour mark, while at the other end, stopper Daniel Iversen made a superb point-blank save to keep the visitors out.

But the Danish ‘keeper could to nothing about Sheffield’s next effort, as centre back Jordan Thorniley nodded in with 10 minutes of the first half to play.

Opportunities for City to draw level before the break followed, with Layton Ndukwu, Admiral Muskwe and Lawrence all going close.

Early on in the second period, Danny Rowe saw his shot saved, before Matty Miles was denied from the rebound, while defender Josh Knight lifted an effort over from distance shortly after.

The Foxes’ persistence eventually paid off on 65 minutes, when striker Kario Mitchell did brilliantly to latch onto Cedric Kipre’s perfectly-weighted through ball and finish from a tight angle to make it 1-1.

City pushed for a winning goal, with Mitchell unfortunate not to add to his leveller after forcing the Sheffield stopper into a brilliant save, while Muskwe lashed an effort wide from deep inside the opposition box.

CITY: Iversen (Bramley 46), De Laet (Johnson 46), Trialist, L. Moore (Choudhury 46), E. Moore (c) (Knight 54), Kipre, Nduwku (Rowe 46), Inler (Miles), Muskwe (Barnes 86), Lawrence (Mitchell), Barnes (Bolkiah 62)

GOAL: Mitchell 65
