Craig Shakespeare has provided an update on the fitness of Wes Morgan prior to Saturday’s .

The Foxes skipper hasn’t featured since the 2-0 victory over Sevilla in mid-March and will again miss out on this weekend’s trip to Selhurst Park due to a nerve problem in his back.

Shakespeare confirmed on Friday in his pre-match press conference that Morgan won’t play against Palace and is also a doubt for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid.

The City manager said: “Wes trained yesterday (Thursday), not all with the squad, but I’ve said before that he’ll still be 50-50 for Atlético Madrid. He won’t feature against Palace.

“I need to assess every player. We only had a light training session yesterday for those that played against Madrid and a full training session for those that didn’t.

“I need to see what the injury situation is before I really comment on the team. We’ll all train this morning together as a group so I can see what the mood is.

“We need to concentrate on Palace first by trying to get the three points against them.”

Shakespeare has been able to still utilise Morgan’s leadership skills while the defender recovers from his back problem and says he will not risk the Jamaica international if he doesn’t feel the need to.

He added: “He’s captain of the Football Club. Sometimes as a captain you lead by example. You don’t have to be loud or brash but sometimes a quiet word in an individual’s ear, he’s there to make sure when he’s not playing, he implements that. He does it really well.

“We’ll only put him in if he’s ready. The conversation will be with Wes and our medical department. We’ll give him every opportunity. If he’s not ready, we won’t take the gamble.”
