Danny Simpson says Leicester City are intent on finishing as high as possible in the Premier League after their UEFA Champions League campaign came to a close last week.

Craig Shakespeare's men travel to  (7:45pm kick-off) hoping to reach the fabled 40-point marker generally considered by most to be enough to secure top-flight survival. Following the 2-1 aggregate defeat by Atlético Madrid, City can now switch their attention entirely to getting over the line domestically.

“We want to finish as high as we can,” Simpson said on Tuesday morning. “We have six games, we are still not safe and even if in the next two weeks we are mathematically safe, we want to finish as high as we can. If we do, we can look back on the season and know that we also got into the quarter-finals in Europe so it might not be too bad of a season."

Last season, City rode the wave of optimism created by seven wins in nine games at the backend of the previous campaign to go on and win the Premier League title for the first time in their history. Simpson, 30, admits the Foxes are keen to head into the 2017 summer break on the back of similar run of form to set them up for the upcoming season.

He added: “We know how important the end of the season is for the start of the next season. We proved that before and I think we have had quite a lot of points. Our points tally in the last six games since Shakey [Shakespeare] took over was quite good, so if we can finish that whole block of games with as many points as we can, I think that it will put us in good stead."

“That is our aim when we come back next season even though it has been a tough season, we want to get as many points in those games and we know we can do it again.”
