After Leicester City twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, Danny Simpson hailed his side for showing their mettle to earn a Premier League point.

An early setback for the Foxes saw Alvaro Negredo break the deadlock at King Power Stadium with a well-taken strike on 13 minutes.

City then levelled through Riyad Mahrez from the spot, before Negredo struck again with 19 minutes to play.

But Claudio Ranieri’s outfit salvaged a draw in injury time thanks to substitute Islam Slimani’s penalty.

Simpson told LCFC TV: “We’re disappointed with the goals that we conceded but I think at 1-1, just like the West Brom game, we thought we were going to go on to win.

“I think today (Saturday), like the last couple of games, we were fighting to the end. It didn’t happen for us in those last couple of games but today it did.

“I think we’ve shown fighting spirit and it could be a big point and a turning point in our season.

“We want to win games, but if we can’t win then we don’t lose – we were like that last season and we did that today.

“It was really important not to lose today, especially not three on the bounce in the league and two on the bounce at home.”

As expected, it proved to be a difficult clash against Aitor Karanka’s outfit, who in recent weeks have also earned credible away draws against the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Simpson added: “We watched clips of them and they’ve had some good performances, especially against top sides.

“We’re at home and we haven’t lost. Middlesbrough are a well-organised team and they know what they’re doing and they gave it 100 per cent.

“We got a goal in the last second, so we’ve got to kick on from here now.”
