Six Memorable Goals Scored By LCFC Defenders
To mark the indomitable City No.6’s most recent effort, the latest in a long line of important goals which includes a looping header at Tottenham Hotspur and an equally vital brace at Manchester City, we remember a few more from City’s men at the back through the years…
Six to remember…
Steve Walsh
Leicester City 3-3 Arsenal
Premier League
27 August, 1997
Martin O'Neill's Leicester City were known for their spirit and determination in the late 1990s. No player typified that more than their captain, Steve Walsh.
With City trailing 3-2 with seconds to spare, the powerful defender leapt above all those around him to make Filbert Street rock on its foundations with a thunderous header in front of the South Stand.
Robert Huth
Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Leicester City
Premier League
13 January, 2016
The tension was palpable as Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur battled for three precious points in one of the most hotly contested Premier League title races in living memory.
There were still many who questioned City's credentials for such a fight as the season hurtled on past Christmas. Robert Huth's late winner at White Hart Lane silenced them, though, as the Foxes closed in on an historic title.
Matt Elliott
Leicester City 2-1 Tranmere Rovers
League Cup Final
27 February, 2000
Despite being favourites to overcome Tranmere Rovers at Wembley, the top-flight Foxes were struggling to break the Football League outfit down at 1-1 in the capital.
Step forward Matt Elliott. The Scotland international converted his second header of the afternoon to restore City's one-goal lead before lifting the League Cup trophy.
Steve Walsh
Leicester City 2-1 Derby County
Division 1 Play-Off Final
30 May, 1994
Two successive attempts at promotion had failed for Leicester City when they faced East Midlands rivals Derby County at Wembley in the Play-Off Final in 1994.
Steve Walsh, pushed up into a more attacking role for the day, was always likely to be the hero for the Foxes as Brian Little's men reached the Premier League for the first time.
Wes Morgan
Manchester United 1-1 Leicester City
Premier League
1 May, 2016
Arguably the biggest match in Leicester's history ultimately ended with a 1-1 draw at Manchester United. They would only have to wait another day, though, until their Premier League title was confirmed.
After Anthony Martial had put the hosts ahead, City skipper Wes Morgan applied a well-placed header onto Danny Drinkwater's curling free-kick to have the Blue Army dreaming of a success they never believed was possible.
Christian Fuchs
Leicester City 3-1 Crystal Palace
Premier League
22 October, 2016
Following the 1-0 home success over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League just four days previously, City returned to domestic duties in need of three points against Crystal Palace.
Austrian left-back Christian Fuchs had already cemented himself as a firm fans' favourite at King Power Stadium before picking his spot from distance on the half-volley to help secure a 3-1 victory.
