Leicester City’s Under-21s have been drawn alongside Sheffield United, Grimsby Town and Walsall in Northern Group H of the EFL Trophy.

The 2016/17 EFL Trophy features teams from Category 1 academies for the first time in its history, while League 1 and League 2 clubs are also included in the 64-team competition.

The Foxes, drawn from the North Section Two pot by Preston North End manager Simon Grayson, learned their Northern Group H opponents on Wednesday morning and are one of 16 Category 1 academy sides to feature in this season’s competition.

City will face League 1’s Sheffield United and Walsall and League 2’s Grimsby Town, with fixtures set to take place in the weeks commencing 29 August, 3 October and 7 November.

Teams from each group will play each other once, either home or away. The top two sides from the group then qualify for the knockout stages, with the chance to play at Wembley Stadium in the final in early April.

Full details, including a date and venue for each game, will be confirmed in due course on LCFC.com.
