U23s Preview: Leicester City vs. Sunderland

Leicester City’s Development Squad play their first home fixture of the 2016/17 Premier League 2 campaign, as they host Sunderland at King Power Stadium on Monday evening. 

It is the first of two home Premier League 2 clashes in four days, with Steve Beaglehole’s outfit first taking on the Black Cats, before playing Everton at Belvoir Drive behind closed doors on Thursday. 

The Foxes will be hoping to bounce back from their opening day defeat to 2015/16 champions Manchester United – a game in which City dominated, but were breached late on.

It was Demetri Mitchell who earned all three points for Manchester United, as the forward sent a lob over stopper Daniel Iversen with 87 minutes on the clock. 

Speaking to LCFC.com after the defeat to Manchester United, Under-23s manager Steve Beaglehole said: “If you look at how many efforts we’ve had on goal and how much we’ve tested their ‘keeper, there’s no doubt we deserved something out the game. 

“At half-time, we were on top and had the most chances, so we told the lads that whatever happens, if we keep chipping away, we might get a break and win it. 

“They scored a very good goal and it was at a stage where it was just too late to get back into it. I’m gutted for the players because it was a very good performance with a lot of positives. 

“I would have been pleased with a draw, but it’s just one of those games. We could have won it, but we’ve got two good home games now.”
