Leicester City’s Development Squad earned their first victory of the 2016/17 Premier League 2 campaign after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at King Power Stadium on Monday evening.

It took 74 minutes for the Foxes to break the deadlock and the goal came from Demarai Gray, who raced through and fired in to open the scoring.

Just five minutes later, Leicester doubled their lead through Elliott Moore, as the defender headed in Gray’s corner from six yards out to help secure three points for his side.

The result saw City extend their unbeaten run in Premier League 2 to four games, having battled to draws at Southampton, Manchester City and Chelsea in their previous three fixtures.

Gray, Jeffrey Schlupp, Bartosz Kapustka and Yohan Benalouane all notched up some valuable minutes in a closely-fought fixture in Leicester.

Both sides saw opportunities blocked early on, as Harvey Barnes and George Marsh had attempts turned away, while Spurs skipper Anthony Georgiou dragged an effort wide from the edge of the box.

It proved to be a tight affair in the first period, with Schlupp coming closest on 26 minutes after forcing Spurs stopper Brandon Austin into a good save at the front post.

After the break, Tottenham wideman Shilow Tracey tried his luck from range, but lifted the effort well over from distance on 51 minutes, while Darnell Johnson was on hand shortly after to block Joe Pritchard’s powerful strike.

Marsh sent a 30-yard volley just wide of Daniel Iversen’s upright on the hour mark, before Johnson saw a powerful strike turned away by Austin just moments later.

City continued to threaten, as Gray fired over from a tight angle and striker Kairo Mitchell saw a goal disallowed for offside.

Austin pulled off two saves in quick succession shortly after, as he turned away Gray’s instinctive flick with 20 minutes to play, before denying Barnes from close range.

But Austin could do nothing about the Foxes' next effort. Gray burst through the middle and calmly side-footed into the back of the net to give his side the lead with just over 15 minutes to play.

Gray turned provider five minutes later to help put City 2-0 up. The England Under-21s international delivered a pin-point corner into Moore, who headed home to seal the three points for his side.

City are back in Premier League 2 action on Friday, when they host Reading at Belvoir Drive (1pm kick-off).
