Leicester City Under-18s were unable to build upon their fine FA Youth Cup success in midweek after falling to a 4-1 reverse against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

Mitch Clark’s 36th minute opener was added upon by an emphatic Jordan Cox strike before forward Kelsey Mooney stuck and Harvey Knibbs converted late on to round off a profitable day for the visitors at Belvoir Drive.

With 22 minutes to go, and a three-goal deficit to scale, the young Foxes did pull a goal back through Layton Ndukwu but it was not enough to continue the flow of momentum forged in the week for Trevor Peake’s men.

Naming a starting line-up which featured many of the side who triumphed against Leyton Orient on Wednesday night, Peake handed starts to the likes of Alex Pascanu, Simranjit Thandi and Ethan Hodby.

For Ndukwu, it was his second goal in two matches after his tidy finish at King Power Stadium this week, but his slotted finish was ultimately not enough to narrow the scores with Knibbs stepping up inside the last minute.

City now have until Saturday 7 January, 2017 to recover from this setback ahead of the visit of Norwich City - when the domestic campaign resumes following a prolonged Christmas break.

CITY: Harrison, Gruno, Heaven (Leshabela 69), Johnson, Pascanu, Templeton, Thandi (Ughelumba 46), Gill, Hodby, Tee, Ndukwu.

ASTON VILLA: Johansson, Walker, Hall, Prosser, Finnerty (Coates 72), Clark (Abdoul 60) Knibbs, Doyle-Hayes (Rowe 60), Mooney, Clarke, Cox.

SUBS NOT USED: Idem, M.Birch.

GOALS: Clark 36, Cox 50, Mooney 59, Knibbs 90.
