Under-23s Match Preview: Leicester City vs. Chelsea

Read a full match preview of Leicester City Under-23s' Premier League 2 clash against Chelsea on Friday 13 January (1.05pm kick-off).
Leicester City’s Development Squad welcome Chelsea to St George’s Park on Friday 13 January (1.05pm kick-off) as they return to Premier League 2 action after the Checkatrade Trophy trip to Cheltenham Town in midweek.

The Foxes succumbed to a 6-1 reverse against the League 2 outfit at the LCI Rail Stadium on Tuesday night with Ben Hamer leaving the pitch after 32 minutes through injury and Steve Beaglehole says it is possible that he will make a host of changes to his starting line-up.

Poland international Bartosz Kaputska, who made his first-team debut at Everton last weekend, scored a fine goal for City early on in Gloucestershire before Cheltenham seized control of the match to book a round three encounter with Bradford City.

Leicester picked up a 0-0 draw in the capital when the sides last met in October, a result which prompted a six-match unbeaten run in the league, and Beaglehole will undoubtedly be hoping his side do even better this time.

"We want a positive reaction," Steve Beaglehole said following the loss to Cheltenham, looking ahead to Friday's clash against Chelsea.

"There'll be changes in the team, I'm sure. There are players who deserve a chance and it'll be against great opposition.

"Technically, they'll be very, very good. You've still got to do the basics right. It'll be a different challenge but still a very big one.

"They're an excellent side and it's the same challenge as our first-team have on the Saturday."

Speaking after a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday, Blues Under-23s coach Adi Viveash told chelseafc.com: “It’s a decent point away from home.

To take four points from Spurs in a season is a big positive because I can’t remember many times we’ve done that in recent years.

“It was a London derby and you could see that it was a bit feisty at times but both teams also played some good football.

“They could both have been easily avoided but unfortunately that has been the story of our season so we just have to keep working hard to rectify it.”
