Jamie Vardy has thanked the Leicester City fans for their support after scoring a magnificent hat-trick during the 4-2 Premier League victory against Manchester City on Saturday evening.

The Foxes forward got back to scoring ways with a triple against Pep Guardiola’s men at King Power Stadium but he was keen to stress that the success was a team effort ahead of the trip to face Bournemouth on Tuesday.

City, who have qualified for the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League, are now looking upwards in the Premier League, too, and Vardy tipped his cap to his team-mates at full-time this weekend.

The England striker told LCFC TV: “Overall it’s been a great day. First and foremost, we just wanted to make sure we were fighting and showed the spirt we shown for the most of last season.

“I thought we did that in the performance, you’ve definitely seen that. Going forward we need to do exactly what we’ve done today.

“Today has shown how we are as a team and how we play and what we’re about. Obviously Man City have world-class class players and are a great team so for us to get the win shows how good we are.

“At the end of the day, I want the team to do well. The goals and everything come second so today, overall, it was a great team performance and for me to get a hat-trick is great.”

The Blue Army were again a valuable weapon at City’s disposal against Manchester City and Vardy says the team are forever grateful for their efforts in the stands.

The 29-year-old added: “The fans are great. They’re non-stop with the singing and sometimes they’re the 12th man.

“When we need that extra bit of energy you get the fans shouting as loud as they can and it gives you a lift, it’s an unbelievable feeling.”
