As Leicester City set their sights on some more silverware this Sunday, Jamie Vardy says nothing less than 110 per cent will do in their FA Community Shield clash with Manchester United.

Claudio Ranieri’s men will take on Jose Mourinho’s FA Cup winners as Premier League champions in the annual season curtain raiser at Wembley on the eve of a thrilling campaign.

The Foxes shocked the world when they marched to the Premier League title by a margin on 10 points last term, but with a host of clubs bringing in a number of big names during the summer, 2016/17 looks set to be one of the most exciting yet.

United themselves drafted in Mourinho to replace Louis Van Gaal and could have Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading their forward line, so if the Foxes can upset the odds again, it would provide a huge boost, according to Vardy.

“It will be brilliant,” the striker told LCFC TV on the prospect of winning the Community Shield. “It’d keep that winning mentality going, which is what we had all of last season.

“We knew that when we did lose we’d bounce straight back. We’ll be going out there giving 110 per cent and if that’s good enough to get us the win then that will be brilliant.

“We’ll just be going out and doing what we’ve done and we’ll see what happens, but we’ll keep the targets small and keep building.”

For Vardy, who finished the last campaign with a stunning 24 goals, the chance to test himself against the best is exactly what makes the Premier League so enticing, and to do it with his Leicester City team-mates makes it even better.

He added: “It’s just [great] getting to be with the team again, playing with the team and having our fans behind us. There are a lot of new managers coming in who purchased a lot of top quality players so it’ll be good to go up against them to see how good we are, to play against them again and show that what we did last season can be repeated.”

The spirit within the camp at Leicester City is well documented, with many of City’s stars who have signed new deals this summer highlighting it as a key factor in their decisions to commit their futures. Vardy is no different.

He explained: “To be fair I’ve been quite lucky with my dressing rooms [throughout my career], they’ve all been similar, but this dressing room, like I’ve said many times, it’s like a full squad of brothers and that’s how we are on and off the field.

“That’s what makes us the team that we are and you can see that on the pitch when we give 110 per cent for each other.

“The gaffer can come in and have a laugh and a joke with us and that extends to the owners as well. It’s a well run Club and the atmosphere around it gives us that unique bond, it’s brilliant.”
