Vardy: We Can Create Chances Against Anyone

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has praised the team’s belief after they put Manchester United to the sword in emphatic fashion at King Power Stadium on Sunday.
It was the first time in Barclays Premier League history that a team had recovered from two-goals down to beat the Red Devils, and Vardy was at the heart of it – creating four goals and scoring one in a 5-3 victory.

But it was the resilience and self belief on show from the Foxes that caught the eye most as they bounced back from 2-0 and 3-1 down to seal the three points against a Manchester United outfit harbouring ambitions of returning to the top four this season.

And speaking after the game, Vardy admitted that the victory was undoubtedly the best of his career, telling LCFC.com: “It’s definitely my best. Probably for most of the lads in there too, but it’s all about picking points up and we’ve had a decent start to the season.

“Obviously we lost to Chelsea but for 70-75 minutes of that game we were matching them as well. We know we’ve just got to keep going now, so we’ll enjoy this and come back ready for Crystal Palace next week.”

Vardy’s pace and willingness to run caused the United backline untold problems across the 90 minutes, and it was no coincidence that that was the focus.

He added: “We knew that we could cause them problems and we’ve been looking at strengths and weaknesses all week. We knew that they were very good attacking-wise, but we also knew that they had a few weaknesses at the back and we’ve managed to exploit that, coming away with five goals to our name.

“We knew that with the shape they play that the full backs bomb on and leave space in behind them so we matched them up and managed to exploit that space. Me making channel runs is always going to drag the centre backs out and we’ve managed to get a few goals from it.”

Starting in a front three alongside in-form Leo Ulloa and last season’s top scorer David Nugent saw the Foxes look a constant threat going forward, and despite a plethora of star names on the United teamsheet, the belief remained strong for City.

“We know that we can create chances against anyone,” said Vardy. “Luckily as soon as they went 2-0 up we hit them straight away. We went in at half time close and unfortunately we conceded another one but we always know we are going to create chances, especially with three strikers out there.

“It’s a massive dream come true to be playing in the Premier League but it’s on to the next game now and hopefully I can keep scoring.”
