Resilience Pleases Pearson

City manager Nigel Pearson was pleased with another resilient display from his side as a brilliant second half performance helped them secure a 2-1 win away to Ipswich Town.

After David McGoldrick had handed the Tractor Boys a second minute lead, City struggled to get going in what turned out to be a frustrating first half.

But after the break Pearson rang the changes, introducing Matty James and Ignasi Miquel to the fray in what was another stunning turnaround that saw David Nugent grab both goals.

Those were Nugent’s 12th and 13th goals against Ipswich in just 12 games, and they keep City in second, but they are now level on points with Burnley at the top and Queens Park Rangers in third.

“It was a good result for us,” said a delighted Pearson when assessing the match.

“In the first half we struggled to find any rhythm. Their goal unsettled us a little bit and to concede so early in a game is a set back. But at 1-0 you’re always in it, especially with the players that we have and the pace within the side as well.

“That always, in an away game particularly, gives you an added bonus because you can play counter attacking football a bit more.

“But in the second half we upped our game quite a bit. That allowed us to gain the three points. They were two good goals [from David Nugent] and I did feel we were dangerous throughout the game. I thought we were capable of scoring even in the first half, despite not playing particularly well.

“It’s a tough place to come to and I’m pleased with the three points.”
