Pearson Pleased With Players

City boss Nigel Pearson was delighted with the attitude of his players after they came from behind to secure a rousing 3-2 victory over Birmingham City at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

After falling behind to Matt Green’s early goal, Jamie Vardy, Andy King and David Nugent all scored to haul The Foxes comfortably back in front before Chris Burke pulled one back for the visitors late on.

A string of missed opportunities in the first half frustrated The Foxes, but with the addition of Lloyd Dyer and Anthony Knockaert at half time and a change of formation, City got what they deserved eventually.

The manager stressed how important it was to get the most from all the members of his squad afterwards, adding: “We created a few more chances today (than we have recently) and I think the players that didn’t start and came on gave us a better response than they did at Derby.

“Over the course of the season we’ll need all the players to contribute when they get the chance. Today it was a good effort by all the players.

“It’s pleasing to get the three points but we could have made life a bit easier for ourselves. I think we clearly didn’t take the chances we created in the first half, which was a bit frustrating, and we allowed them to get something to defend with really their only opportunity.

“It’s good to get the three points but we could have made things easier for ourselves.

“I thought if we kept plugging away we’d get a chance. A few decisions didn’t go our way but we ended up getting the win we were looking for which was nice and it has been a really good start to the season for us.

“It’s early in the season so I wouldn’t say it’s a case of building momentum, it’s about finding your feet and trying to get off to a good start which we have done.

“I don’t think that our performances have been what we’re looking for, but the important thing at the minute is that we’re able to win tight games and that’s always a quality which isn’t easy in this division.”
