Hammond: Best Game Of My Career

Leicester City midfielder Dean Hammond believes Sunday’s result against Manchester United was the best game of his career.

The Foxes ran riot after recovering from a two goal deficit on two occasions to overcome Louis Van Gaal’s side 5-3 in one of the most memorable City games in recent history.
And the remarkable comeback was one that will stick in the mind of the former Southampton man, who paid credit to his side for the display, and is grateful for his opportunity to play such a pivotal role in the team.
Speaking after the United victory, he said: “I've had an opportunity this year and I'm just trying to take it a game at a time.
"It is probably the best result of my career. We probably don't want that every week but we scored at good times and never let them settle.
"I'm not sure what the catalyst was. We stuck to the game plan of wanting to attack.
"We know they had good attacking players but we wanted to get at them – and we were ruthless.”
Hammond praised the efforts of forward Jamie Vardy, who made his first league start for Nigel Pearson’s men after recovering from a thigh strain, netting one and having a hand in the other four in what was a clinical display from the former Fleetwood Town striker.
Hammond continued: “Vards has waited for his chance. He had an injury in pre-season. But he was brilliant. He worked so hard and had real quality with his finish, it was so calm.
"He's lightning. He reminds me in training when he runs past me. He's proper sharp but determined as well. He wants to score goals and is a proper team man.
"Vards has been fantastic and there are not many people as quick as him.
"He's worked on his game, he works very hard in training and has real belief in himself. He's happy and enjoys being at the club. And he deserves all the plaudits he has got.”
Hammond also admitted that he’s acquired a great deal of knowledge from summer signing Cambiasso, who brings with him a vast array of talent after an illustrious 10 year career at Inter Milan.
He added: "The midfield worked well. You learn off Esteban every day. His English is very good and he always talks to you.
"I have learnt so much from Esteban's communication skills. All the time he is pulling players into position. He's always dictating the game, he's very good at knowing where he is on the pitch.
"If you see him he very rarely has more than one or two touches as he knows where he is. He keeps the ball very well and he's a really nice bloke as well.
"When you beat Man United it is a very rare occasion. But we deserved to win, it was not scrappy.
"Danny Drinkwater came in as well and was fantastic. We worked well and with Andy King and Matty James coming on we had competition.
"We just kept trying to attack, it was pure perseverance.”
