Foxes Backing RESPECT Campaign

Leicester City Football Club will proudly host its fifth annual RESPECT fixture at King Power Stadium this Saturday, in partnership with the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA.

An event that has grown in profile every season since its debut in 2008, Saturday’s RESPECT fixture against AFC Bournemouth will see over 200 local children taking part in a wide variety of activities, all in support of the FA’s RESPECT programme and continued support of fair play.

Activity planned for Saturday includes:

  • A mixed ‘RESPECT Zone’ hosting both home and away supporters
  • Futsal tournament and games outside the stadium pre-match
  • LCFC Grass Roots clubs acting as flag bearers and providing a players’ guard of honour
  • Half-time RESPECT parade
  • Presentation of FA Chartered Standard Awards

The introduction of the ‘RESPECT Zone’, to be hosted in King Power Stadium’s Family Stand and supported by both the Leicestershire & Rutland and Hampshire County FA’s, will offer families supporting both clubs the opportunity to enjoy the match in a neutral environment together.

It marks a step forward in the history of football stadiums and is an important message to everyone in football as it will demonstrate to everyone, especially our young spectators, that they can sit together and still enjoy a game played between their favourite teams.

The awards presented will recognise and reward those individuals, teams, leagues and clubs for their part in making football enjoyable, fun, safe, sanctioned and affiliated, and for making football a success by improving the way the game is played, coached and administered.

Leicester City Ambassador Alan Birchenall said:“Leicester City have been one of the biggest supporters of the RESPECT campaign since it was first launched by the FA. As a Club with strong links to its community and grass roots football in Leicester, we have always looked to lead by example.

“Football is a competitive sport, but there’s a right way to go about playing the game and that means everyone involved showing respect for each other – players, staff, officials and fans.”

Leicester City’s efforts to support the RESPECT campaign on both a local and national level saw the Club honoured at the FA's Respect and Fair Play Awards in 2012, as recipients of the FA Professional Game Award.

Keith Murdoch, Chief Executive Officer for the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA, said:“Through working with Leicester City in recent seasons, we have been able to greatly increase the profile of the RESPECT campaign in the region and highlight an issue crucial to the future of the game.

“The Club have consistently raised new ideas to help with its development and the introduction of a ‘RESPECT Zone’ brings another new dimension to an annual fixture that has always been very well received.

“People are passionate about football, but without a healthy level of respect for our colleagues and opponents, there would be no game to be passionate about. It’s a message we’re completely committed to and we are delighted to have Leicester City’s on-going support in delivering it.”

Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match against AFC Bournemouth kicks off at King Power Stadium at 3pm, with pre-match activity beginning around 1.30pm. For ticket information, click or call 0844 815 5000.
