Media Flock To Everton Press Conference

The build-up to City’s friendly with Everton stepped up a notch on Friday, as managers and players from both clubs came together for a pre-match press conference in Bangkok.
Nigel Pearson, Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel, Andy King and Matty James all made the trip to Suvarnabhumi Airport shortly after breakfast on their first ‘morning’ in the Thai capital.

It was a slightly strange experience for those unfamiliar with the science behind remaining on UK time, but the City contingent were on top form as they made their way to VIP arrivals, where Roberto Martinez and his Everton squad were just touching down ahead of Sunday’s game at the Supachalasai Stadium to mark the 25th anniversary of King Power International.

In front of a packed press conference, Pearson and Morgan took to the stage alongside City Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Martinez and Toffees midfielder Leon Osman.

Vice Chairman ‘Top’ kicked off proceedings by explaining how proud he was to bring Leicester City back to Thailand following their celebratory trip at the end of last season and described the country as the Foxes’ “second home”.

That has certainly been the case for Pearson, whose revelation that he was currently on his fourth trip to the Kingdom this year was met with wide approval from the Thai locals. He expressed his respect for Martinez and his Everton side, while predicting a game that will be evenly contested as both sides continue their preparations for the new Barclays Premier League season.

The City boss also confirmed that he expects new signing Leo Ulloa to feature – the Argentine striker having impressed during training since the squad’s arrival in Bangkok.

There is clearly a healthy respect between the two managers, highlighted by Martinez’s belief that City will bring “winning momentum” into Sunday’s game and the campaign ahead following their Football League Championship triumph last term.

While nobody was prepared to rise to the bait of a requested score prediction, it was clear that both sets of players are looking forward to the match and to putting on an entertaining display for the football-loving Thai public.

All questions successfully fielded, those on stage were joined by Schmeichel, King and James, plus Everton trio Sylvain Distin, James McCarthy and Tony Hibbert for a photo opportunity, before proceedings were brought to a close.

The City squad have just a handful of sessions remaining before Sunday’s game, which kicks off at 6.20pm local time (12.20pm BST) and are due to train at the Supachalasai Stadium on Saturday evening as part of their preparations.
