Pearson Credits Excellent Staff

City boss Nigel Pearson has credited the efforts of his staff following his side’s impressive start to their Barclays Premier League campaign.
Having won two tricky games on the bounce including their remarkable 5-3 mauling of Manchester United on Sunday, Pearson highlighted the ability of his coaching team, including assistant manager Craig Shakespeare.
Shakespeare, who played alongside Pearson at Sheffield Wednesday, enjoyed a 19-year-long footballing career, starting at Walsall before moving on to Wednesday, West Bromwich Albion and Grimsby Town among other clubs.
He has been a key component of Pearson's backroom team during both of his spells as City manager - taking the lead in coaching matters, while Steve Walsh oversees player recruitment.
Appreciating the work and experience of his former team mate, Pearson said: “He’s excellent for both myself and the players.
“You know how much I value the staff I work with, I don’t see it being anything other than a team effort.
“When you look at the players we talk about a team more than the individuals.
“In our management model we have a manager rather than a head coach.
“Craig is exactly what his job title suggest – he’s a very capable assistant and I’m very pleased to have people like him, Steve [Walsh], Dave Rennie, Mike Stowell and all the other staff.
“They play a significant role and the crucial factor with it all is that it’s not jobs for the boys.
“It’s very much a case of people being talented in their own field.”
Pearson also praised his coaching staff for their hard work and understanding of each other - a trait which is key to the impressive performances that City have put on this season.
He added: “Clearly it does help if you’ve got talented individuals but they can only shine if you have a collective ethic and common goals.
“Ultimately we have to get the best out the players and it certainly helps if the staff are on the same page and understand how we’re trying to work.
“I know I can be difficult to manage occasionally but it helps if you have people working with you who understand what you’re like as a person as well as just as a manager.”
