Steady Shakey Calls For Composure

Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare insists City will not get carried away with their status as npower Championship leaders, as the Foxes prepare for Saturday’s visit of Crystal Palace.

An outstanding start to the campaign, culminating in a run of seven wins in their last nine games, sees Nigel Pearson’s side setting the pace in the race of the Premier League.

And having won all six of their games at King Power Stadium so far, another three points against the Eagles on Saturday would make it City’s best start to a season at home in 106 years.

It is a run of form that has given supporters every reason to be optimistic, a notion reflected in Tuesday night’s season-high home attendance for the win over Brighton.

“Performances and where we are in the table suggest we’re doing something right and the players have to take some credit for that,” said Shakey, filling in for manager Nigel Pearson in Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

“The team spirit, the togetherness, the work ethic has gone up two-fold. Through that, you get what you deserve and long may that continue.

“But life experience in football tells you not to get too carried away when you’re top or too disappointed when you’re not.

“Earlier on the season we talked about not quite getting the points tally on the board, but we didn’t get carried away.

“The players stuck at it and the challenge now is trying to maintain that consistency.”

Despite losing manager Dougie Freedman earlier this week, Crystal Palace will come into Saturday’s game just four points behind City and placed fourth in the table.

With eight-goal leading scorer Glenn Murray and highly-rated winger Wilfried Zaha at the sharp end of the Eagles’ attack, Shakey expects them to pose a considerable threat to City’s 100 per cent home record.

“As they have been over the last few years, I would expect Crystal Palace to be hard to beat, hard to break down and with a threat in Glenn Murray in terms of his goal-scoring record. It will be a difficult game for us,” Shakey said.

“If you pick one player out, you’d have to pick Zaha out at the moment with the way he is playing.

“Over the last few years he has really come to the fore and he’ll be one we have to keep a tight rein on.”

Tickets for Saturday’s game are priced from £22 for Adults, £20 for Seniors, £15 for Under-22s, £5 for Under-12s and FREE for Under-8s.
