Pearson Pleased With City Quality

A 1-0 win over promotion rivals Reading at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon was the perfect late Christmas present for City boss Nigel Pearson, whose side went top of the league.

David Nugent’s first half penalty was the difference, but it was a performance that could have seen the Foxes much further ahead – Lloyd Dyer, Jamie Vardy and Anthony Knockaert all going close.

City will take plenty of confidence from the win though, which builds on a 1-0 success away to QPR last weekend and puts them in a great position going into Sunday’s home clash with Bolton Wanderers.

Pearson told Foxes Player: “It was one of our better performances and in the first half in particular, the standard of football that we played was excellent.

“It’s just good to get a win on Boxing Day after getting such a good result at QPR, and now we’ve backed it up with a good win at home.

“The level of performance has gone back up and when you go into games like these it’s very easy to rue some of the points that we’ve dropped elsewhere, but I don’t think at this level there will be too many fixtures that go the way that you expect them to go.

“We’ve got the Christmas period off to a good start with an away win and now another good win today.

“We always try to start well but it depends a lot of the time whether your opponents allow you to. There are some very good sides in this division and I thought Reading started pretty well. But because we managed the ball so well, it really did mean we were able to spend a lot of the game on top.”

“It’s always going to be a team effort to keep clean sheets and your defenders and goalkeeper will always perform well in these, but ultimately it’s a team effort to do that.”
