U17s Report: Leicester City 4 Shrewsbury 1

A Leicester City Under-17s side powered to a 4-1 friendly victory over Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday afternoon with a fine display of attacking football.
First half goals from the lively forward pairing of Harvey Barnes and Keenan King put the hosts well in control after a dominant opening 45 minutes, before a two stunning second half strikes from a trialist and Barnes made it four.

The visitors did pull one back late on, but it did little to take the shine off an excellent performance from the Foxes, on the back of another solid outing for the Under-18s as they drew 0-0 with West Ham in their season opener three days earlier.

It was an attack-minded side for the Foxes, and they wasted no time in making their intentions clear with a goal in just the third minute from Barnes.

The City no. 10 played a clever one-two with King on the edge of the box that bamboozled the Shrewsbury defence and left him with an easy finish into the net.

There was life in Shrewsbury, but City were more dangerous, as Tomas Dembrauskis proved with a thunderous 40-yard drive that had the ‘keeper beaten, but not the upright.

It took until the 39th minute for the Foxes to add a second, but they were good value for it. This time it was Barnes who turned provider for his team-mate King, who rattled in an excellent first time finish from the edge of the box.

After the break City could easily have been out of sight. The excellent Toby Fura struck both posts with his 18 yard volley, another shot was cleared off the line, while Dembrauskis was only denied a goal by some great goalkeeping.

The third goal finally arrived with 25 minutes to play, when a City trialist exquisitely curled a right footed shot into the top corner from the left side of the box with his right foot – leaving the goalkeeper grasping at thin air.

Barnes then grabbed his second and City’s fourth of the match in what was almost a carbon copy of the previous goal, which put the result well beyond doubt.

To their credit, the visitors kept battling and did manage to grab a consolation through substitute Jacob Farleigh, who finished off a great move with a sliding finish.

Next up for the Under-18s is a home clash with Chelsea at Belvoir Drive on Saturday. See a full fixture list .

CITY: Bramley, Burke, Pascanu, Dombrouskis, Kipre, Knight, Trialist, Fura, King, Barnes, Trialist
