LCFC Foxes Foundation 13-14 Charities

Over £70,000 was raised last season to provide vital support for charities operating in the Leicestershire and wider communities and plans are already in place to surpass that total over the coming months.

A host of exciting fundraising ideas are in the pipeline to add to last season’s efforts, which culminated in Club Ambassador Alan Birchenall’s 33rd Annual End of Season Run – itself raising almost £25,000 towards the total.

Two representatives from each chosen charity attended the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Wigan Athletic at King Power Stadium as guests of the Club to mark the launch of this season’s LCFC Foxes Foundation campaign.

Leicester City’s Chief Executive Officer Susan Whelan said: “We have received fantastic support in the two years since we launched the LCFC Foxes Foundation, with over £250,000 already raised for worthy causes in Leicestershire and beyond.

“This year, we’re looking to build on that early success by strengthening the Foundation’s place at the heart of the local community, with the people of Leicester continuing to both contribute to and benefit from our extensive fundraising.

“As in previous seasons, there is a strong Leicester connection running through each of our chosen charities. The entire management team, staff and players at the Club, will work together with the charities this season to ensure we can all play our part to support them in the extraordinary work they undertake in the community.” 

Part of the Lord Mayor’s annual charity appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support are dedicated to improving the lives of the one in every three people who will contract cancer in their lives through treatment, expertise and support.

Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Mustafa Kamal commented: “I am supporting Macmillan Cancer Support during my year in office and am delighted to be chosen as one of the recipients of the LCFC Foxes Foundation campaign.

“I lost both my mother and brother to cancer and the support provided by Macmillan has left a lasting impression on me.  So much so, that I pledged that if I could ever do anything to help them in the future, I would.”

With over 201 branches across the country, Samaritans and its 20,000+ volunteers aim to cut the numbers of people taking their own lives by providing support for those in need to talk about their feelings.

John Wilcox of Samaritans said: “We are thrilled to be chosen as a Foxes Foundation recipient charity in 2013/14. We are an independent local charity which receives no grants from authorities so the money this will bring us is very important.  

“However, we are much more grateful for the opportunity to spread our message to the people of Leicester and Leicestershire that we are here for them, every hour of every day without exception.”

Based in Leicester, The Laura Centre is a professional bereavement service that helps give families suffering from a loss a safe, friendly and inclusive environment to manage the impact of a death on their lives.

Gail Moore Co-founder of The Laura Centre said: “We are grateful to everyone at LCFC Foxes Foundation for adopting The Laura Centre as one of their chosen Charities of the Year for the 2013/14 season. 

“The impact of the LCFC ‘adoption’ would not only help in raising valuable donations to aid the work of TLC, but it will also raise public awareness of the work in which we are involved.” 

Breast Cancer Care is charity dedicated to the providing the best treatment and support to those affected by breast cancer using a combination of personal experiences and clinical expertise.

Lisa Brown of Breast Cancer Care added: “We are here for anyone affected by breast cancer.  We bring people together, provide information and support, and campaign for improved standards of care. 

“We use our understanding of people's experience of breast cancer and our clinical expertise in everything we do.”

This season will also see the continuation of the LCFC Defibrillator Appeal – a campaign to raise the funds required to purchase life-saving defibrillators that will be donated to key areas in Leicestershire to maximise accessibility.

The first major event of this season’s fundraising activity takes place at King Power Stadium on Sunday 6 October, when a team of Leicester City legends including the likes of Robbie Savage, Muzzy Izzet and Steve Walsh takes on a celebrity team from the world of entertainment including former world boxing champion Joe Calzaghe, Eastenders actor Adam Woodyatt and Soccer AM’s Franky Fryer.
