King Optimistic For Response Against West Brom

Leicester City midfielder Andy King is certain his side will put Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Swansea City behind them and push on with their campaign.

A double either side of half-time from Wilfried Bony at the Liberty Stadium saw the Foxes slip to their fourth loss of the Barclays Premier League season on what proved to be a tough evening for Nigel Pearson’s men.
Garry Monk’s side were winless in five games going into the clash while City were still searching for their third victory of the 2014/15 season since the memorable mauling of Manchester United in mid-September.
The Swans took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Bony completed a superb one-two with Gylfi Sigurdsson before slotting past Kasper Schmeichel and notched his brace 12 minutes into the second half with another neat finish.
King, who helped City maintain stability in midfield after coming on for the remaining 23 minutes of the match, admitted his side were frustrated with their performance.
Speaking to Foxes Player after the loss, he said: “It’s really frustrating. We know we can play a lot better than that. We haven’t really done ourselves justice today – maybe we could have got something late on with a couple of chances but ultimately we didn’t start well.
“We probably didn’t keep the ball well enough and when we’re not playing well we’ve got to stay in games and we didn’t do that today.
“Swansea at home is one of the toughest fixtures you’re going to get in the league. They use the ball well and they’re hard to play against but let’s not make any excuses for our own performance.
“We came here hoping we could get the three points and we haven’t managed to do that. We’ve got to make sure we can do that next weekend.
“Once it goes 2-0 it’s always a bit of an uphill mountain to climb and that proved to be the case today. We probably got better towards the end and had a couple of chances but we know we can do better.”
Bony’s second goal prompted City boss Pearson into a triple substitution on 67 minutes – Danny Drinkwater, Jamie Vardy and Dean Hammond were replaced by Esteban Cambiasso, Matty James and City Academy product King, who looked to make a positive change after coming on for the remainder of the game.
“When you’re coming on you want to try and impact the game and get your team back in it,” he said. “We tried to do that with 20 minutes to go and I thought we created a couple of chances and maybe those on another day go in.
“But ultimately, when we’re not playing well we can’t be conceding goals the way we have been doing and that’s the main disappointment today.
“He’s [Nigel Pearson] got every confidence in us – we’re a confident group, we’ve got good players and we’ve shown that so far this season.
“I know we didn’t play that well today but over the first nine games I think we’ve played well and maybe not got as many points as we should have – that’s the nature of this league – it’s the toughest in the world.
“They’ve [the fans] been brilliant so far this season. They’ve been outstanding so it’s down to us now to try and put on a performance and get back to winning ways.”
City face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday at King Power Stadium knowing a win could lift them into the top half of the Premier League.
