Ulloa: Made For England

Fresh from making his debut in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Everton, new signing Leo Ulloa says he is grateful to Leicester City for opening the door to the Barclays Premier League for him.
In 18 impressive months playing for Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion, the Argentine striker suffered the agony of two play-off semi-final defeats - the first coming in 2012/13 against eventual winners Crystal Palace before last season’s loss to Derby County.

Leicester City fans can themselves relate all-too-well to heartache in the play-offs, but after last season’s unstoppable march to the title, Premier League football is once again on offer at King Power Stadium, and Ulloa is delighted to be on board for his first taste of it.

The 28-year-old has previously shone in La Liga with Almeria, but with a campaign in England’s top-flight now on the horizon, Ulloa is confident that he has the qualities to shine.

“It was my father that said he wanted me to play in the Premier League because my body is made for England,” said Ulloa, speaking exclusively to Foxes Player.

“I’ve enjoyed my time in England. It’s been a year and a half now. It’s a different kind of football, English football is intense and strong, but it’s good and I feel good when I’m on the pitch. I enjoy it all the time.

“I’m more excited than I was to be playing in La Liga, because I think the Premier League is number one. I am happy because I can now play in the Premier League.

“[With Brighton] it was difficult because twice in the play-offs it wasn’t possible to get into the Premier League, but Leicester opened the door for this to happen.”

Ulloa’s first taste of action in a City shirt came in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Everton in Bangkok when he put in a promising display alongside last season’s top scorer, David Nugent.

And although he admitted it was tough to adapt to the heat in training over in Thailand, he has been massively impressed by what he has seen of Leicester City so far.

He added: “I want to play for Leicester and I know they are a really good team. Last season they played really well and I think it’s a really good Club. They have a good team and it’s great for them to be in the Premier League after a long time out.

“My feeling is really good. I want to stay here and my first days have been really good. It’s a big step for me but I want to play and enjoy it with the team and the fans.

“The training is good. At first it’s harder because here in Thailand it’s very hot but now it’s good. Once you adapt [to the heat] it’s not too bad.

“It’s amazing as there are so many fans here. They’re all in Leicester shirts and I think the players have enjoyed it. It’s a nice comfort for us to have people here supporting us.”
