U21 Reaction: Kennedy Elated With First Win

Leicester City Development Squad centre-half Kieran Kennedy admits he was over the moon to score against his former side after beating Manchester City 6-2 at King Power Stadium on Monday.

After four quick-fire goals in 18 first-half minutes, the defender put the Foxes 5-0 up after slotting in Anthony Knockaert’s deflected shot deep in the Citizen’s penalty box.
Kennedy played a productive 90 minutes on the right hand side of the back four next to first team full-back Danny Simpson, taking a great deal from the former Queens Park Rangers defender.
And despite him netting a rare goal, he felt City registering their first win of the Barclays U21 Premier League season was the most important outcome of the night.
Speaking after the victory, Kennedy told Foxes Player: “I’m over the moon [to score] against my old club as well. I’m buzzing to win 6-2 and get on the score sheet myself because I don’t score many.
“I was buzzing to be fair – it’s always nice to score against your old club but I’m happier about the result and the way we played because we needed that after a tough start to the season.
“It’s always nice to play alongside them [first teamers]. I had Danny Simpson next to me with loads of experience and Anthony [Knockaert] in front. It felt really good. They obviously know what’s expected of a player, so it’s nice.
“You don’t expect to score six – you’d be stupid if you did – but obviously the way we played and the way we got forward, they couldn’t stop us.”
Steve Beaglehole’s squad face the Red Devils on Monday 3 November, with Kennedy hoping to topple another Manchester side in a game that could see them jump off the bottom of the league with a win.
He added: “It would be really nice to score against Manchester United – my family all support them. Obviously it’s in Manchester as well so they’ll all be able to come. I’m really looking forward to it.”
